Is High on Life a Rick and Morty Game From Justin Roiland?

When viewers heard Justin Roiland in the High on Life reveal trailer, they thought it might be a Rick and Morty video game. After all, the hit animated series translates perfectly to a video game. However, outside of Pocket Mortys and Virtual Rick-ality, we haven’t seen any games set in that universe. We’ll look at whether or not High on Life is a Rick and Morty game below.

Is High on Life set in the Rick and Morty universe?

It doesn’t appear that High on Life is set in the Rick and Morty universe from the reveal trailer. Despite prominently featuring Justin Roiland and sharing a similar visual style, we don’t see anything that specifically links it to the popular animated show.

However, the universe is a big place, and High on Life could be set in the same continuity as Rick and Morty without having any ties to the show. In the game, you play the role of someone fresh out of high school with no job or ambition. Thankfully (for you, not anyone else), some aliens invade Earth, so they can enslave humanity and sell them as drugs. That’s right; some aliens get high off smoking humans. You discover some talking guns and become a bounty hunter so you can take down the alien drug cartel and save the world.

Justin Roiland described a bit of what led up to this game:

“I wanted to make games that I wanted to play, and that was the spark that sort of lit the fire of Squanch Games. Then we shipped Trover, we shipped Accounting+, and now we’re on this absolute dream game that we were kind of building towards this whole time.”

We’ll all get a chance to see how squanchy High on Life is when it releases on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming in October 2022.
