Call of Duty Warzone 2 PS4 Xbox One

Will Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Release on PS4 and Xbox One?

Given that we’re currently between console generations, many fans are wondering if the Call of Duty Warzone 2 PS4 and Xbox One versions are in the works. Or maybe it’s time to upgrade to the current-gen consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, even if it’s done by force.

Is Warzone 2 on PS4 and Xbox One?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be on last-gen consoles. According to reliable insider Tom Henderson the game will be “current-gen and PC only” and that Activision Blizzard wants to make “a completely new game for the better hardware.”

Given that he also says that this sequel will not be directly associated with any prior Call of Duty game, it makes sense that the developers for Warzone 2 would abandon the PS4 and Xbox One versions. However, we could hear differently from Activision Blizzard in the future as part of an official announcement on multiplatform releases, but the odds are looking great.

Since the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, other developers, including Sony, have been releasing games on last-gen consoles to make sure they have a large enough market to release in, but this year marks a noticeable shift. Both Gotham Knights and Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown have let go of their last-gen versions despite initially suggesting that they would be available on PS4 and Xbox One. And it would not be a surprise to see this practice continue to grow moving forward.

If anything, there has been more concern over the Call of Duty franchise not releasing on any PlayStation (or Nintendo) consoles due to Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard, currently expected to be completed in fiscal year 2023. At the moment, to ease fears that the Federal Trade Commission who will be scrutinizing this deal for anti-competitive practices, Activision has suggested that at least some Call of Duty games in the near future would not be Xbox exclusive. According to PlayStation Lifestyle, Sony reportedly has a a marketing deal with Activision that will last for the next three Call of Duty games.

In other news, Xbox Game Pass will be adding Assassin’s Creed Origins and For Honor in June, and Diablo Immortal’s release date has been canceled in the Netherlands and Belgium due to lootboxes.
