Upcoming Xbox Series X|S Games 2022 Release Calendar

The list of upcoming Xbox Series X|S games has gotten much larger in the console’s second year on the market. Almost every Xbox One game on the 2022 release calendar has an optimized for Xbox Series X|S version. We also see more exclusively next-gen titles pop up.

The titles below are all slated to release on the Xbox Series X|S in 2022. Some of them are optimized for the Xbox Series X|S, and others are skipping the Xbox One entirely and are only available on current-gen platforms.

What about upcoming Xbox Series X|S exclusive releases?

Unlike Sony, which delineates between PS4 and PS5 games, Xbox kind of lumps everything together. Ostensibly, almost all Xbox One games also work on Xbox Series X|S consoles. However, these games can also be “optimized for Xbox Series X|S.” Xbox Smart Delivery ensures that you get whichever version that will work best on your console. As such, almost the entire Xbox library is just marketed as “Xbox” games without distinguishing console.

So, there aren’t very many Xbox Series X|S exclusives. As of April 2022, only a handful have released. Of course, as this generation progresses, we’ll see more and more games released that aren’t compatible with the Xbox One. But for now, the majority of games that are optimized for Xbox Series X|S can also be played on Xbox One. We’ll place an asterisk by any games releasing for Xbox Series X|S that aren’t compatible with the Xbox One below.

April 2022 Xbox Series X|S Releases

The rest of April 2022 is light on big releases, but thereare a few interesting ones here. Xbox players can finally check out Bugsnax, and Rogue Legacy is getting a 1.0 release.

We’re pumped to get scared witless by Supermassive Games’ The Quarry in June. There’s also a new Elder Scrolls Online expansion for players of the long-running MMO to rejoice about.

July 2022 Xbox Series X|S Releases

We haven’t found a single July release yet. However, we’d put money on a swath of games getting announced for July release dates during Summer Game Fest.

August 2022 Xbox Series X|S Releases

We’ll see whether the Saints Row reboot is horrible or not in August. Atlus is surprisingly dropping Soul Hackers 2 on Xbox in August as well, which is odd for it since it usually sticks to Nintendo and Sony consoles.

The game we’re looking forward to most in September is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. It’s Vermintide, but in W40K, which sounds absolutely amazing. This game has already been delayed twice, and we’re really hoping it makes its release date this time around.

October 2022 Xbox Series X|S Releases

The Arkham series spiritual successor Gotham Knights releases in October. Hopefully, it’ll bring some of the magic of Arkham back.

The Xbox Series X|S console exclusive Starfield will be the gaming event of November (and possibly December). Here’s hoping Bethesda’s next super RPG is as fantastic as everyone hopes it’ll be.

December 2022 Xbox Series X|S Releases

STALKER 2 was our most-anticipated release of December. Unfortunately, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where devs GSC World are located, the game has been postponed indefinitely. Regardless, we’ve kept the game on the list out of respect for their situation.
