Fans are wondering if Horizon Forbidden West is multiplayer. While the original is known for its excellent single-player adventure, some were hoping that Guerilla Games would add co-op to the sequel. After all, exploring a vast open world with friends is always a blast. We’ll cover whether Horizon Forbidden West has any multiplayer modes or not below.
Does Horizon Forbidden West have co-op multiplayer?
Horizon Forbidden West isn’t multiplayer. The game doesn’t feature any co-op modes and is strictly single-player. There’s no online component at all, not even leaderboards for any activities. No updates adding multiplayer to the game have been announced, and we don’t anticipate the feature being added.
Despite the lack of multiplayer, the game has gotten great review scores. Sony typically keeps its single-player games separate from its multiplayer titles, but that’s been changing lately. Death Stranding featured massive asynchronous multiplayer, and Ghost of Tsushima Legends added a separate co-op mode to the game. So, although we don’t anticipate multiplayer coming to Horizon Forbidden West, it’s entirely possible we might get a surprise at some point in the future.
Obviously, having two Aloys running around would be weird. However, seeing as many missions have Aloy working with an NPC, there’s no reason that co-op couldn’t be added. At the very least, the ability to drop in as one of the other characters would be excellent. We’re not expecting full progression for the second player, but it’d be fun to kick it and blow up robots.
A VR title is coming out set in the same universe called Horizon Call of the Mountain that may have multiplayer. However, it won’t release until the PSVR 2 is out, and not much is known about its gameplay yet. For now, that’s the only game slated to release in the Horizon franchise. So, those waiting for multiplayer will have to be patient and hope the next game has it.
