Promises of a BioShock movie are finally coming true thanks to Netflix. Previous attempts to make a film inspired by the franchise failed, but Netflix is at the helm this time, and it’ll make a movie out of anything. So, we’ll take a look at when the BioShock movie release date will be, what it’s about, and other odds and ends.
BioShock Netflix movie release date rumors
As of writing, there’s no official release date for the BioShock Netflix movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vertigo Entertainment will be the studio behind it and that it may be part of a cinematic universe.
Since no details other than its existence were announced, we’d bet that it’s early in pre-production. That means that we’re likely looking at a 2023-2024 release at the earliest.

We haven’t gotten any details about the script, cast, crew, or how Netflix wants to adapt BioShock other than it’ll be a feature-length film. However, with Vertigo Entertainment’s involvement, we can assume that the story will tap into BioShock’s horror elements.
The claim that Netflix wants to form a BioShock cinematic universe is the most confusing part of the announcement. There are many possibilities if they plan to utilize Elizabeth’s dimensional shifting. However, we don’t see the film being a straight adaptation of any of the games.
The BioShock film was initially supposed to be directed by Gore Verbinski and written by John Logan. In May 2009, Take-Two and Universal Studios entered a partnership to produce it, but production fell apart. As a result, by 2010, the movie was canceled, and it’s doubtful any scripts or concepts from that project will make it into Netflix’s production.
Is there a trailer?
No trailer has been released yet. The only teaser image we got was extremely generic, and it’ll likely be a while before we see any film-specific art.
