Parasite Eve has kept a small but dedicated fanbase over the years. After the disappointment of The 3rd Birthday, fans hoped to hear a Parasite Eve 3 release date someday. Unfortunately, the series has remained formant for over a decade. We’ll look at the series chances for revival below.
Will we ever get a Parasite Eve 3 release date?
Fans shouldn’t rule out a possible Parasite Eve 3 release date in the future. Square Enix did care enough about the series to make three titles. However, making a game in this franchise is a bit more complicated than most of Square Enix’s other IPs.
Square Enix co-owns the rights to Parasite Eve with the author of the book that inspired the game, Hideaki Sena. While details of that partnership aren’t known, we imagine that it includes royalties or profit-sharing. As such, when developing a game in the series, Square Enix has to make sure it can break even while also making payment to Sena.
Unfortunately, we haven’t heard a peep out of this series in a decade. It doesn’t even get the whispers that Square Enix’s other dormant franchises receive. As such, we’d bet that we won’t see a Parasite Eve 3 or any other game in the series for the foreseeable future, if ever.
Since it’s been so long since the original game came out, we’d bet that Square Enix would produce a Parasite Eve reboot or remake over a sequel. However, since fans were so negative about The 3rd Birthday, it would be a good move to start the series over anyway.
Unfortunately, none of the series is available on modern platforms, so those wanting to play them for the first time will have to purchase a PS1, PS3, or PSP. Hopefully, if Square Enix decides to revive the series, it’ll make the originals available again as well.
