We’ve been waiting for a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date for years now. The possibility of a remaster first reared its head as part of the massive Nvidia GeForce Now leak. Some of the games on that list seemed ludicrous at the time, but almost off of those listed for Square Enix have released in the year and a half since. Additionally, reputable insiders have hinted that it’s in development as well. So, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before we get a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date.
When will there be a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date?
It’s hard to tell when the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster will get a release date. While many of the games in the GeForce Now leak ended up being real, most of the dates associated with them were either placeholders or tentative launch windows that were missed (likely due to COVID-19).
Insider Jason Schreier recently responded to someone asking, “Where is Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster,” with “Coming.” Additionally, in an interview in early February 2023, Ichiro Hazama, producer on Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, stated that “the Tactics team is incredibly busy at the moment” on a project.
The writer and director of Final Fantasy Tactics, Yasumi Matsuno, left Square Enix after the production of Final Fantasy XII. However, his company, Algebra Factory, still works with Square Enix and recently created scenarios for Final Fantasy 14’s Stormblood and Shadowbringers expansions. In addition, many other of the major devs that worked on Tactics are still at Square Enix or closely associated with the company. So, bringing them back to work on the remaster wouldn’t be a huge undertaking.
So far, we’ve got no official confirmation of a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date. However, most of the games on the GeForce Now list have been released, so we anticipate hearing something about the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster soon.
Another big question is how far this remaster will go. The game already received a major update in the past in the form of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on PSP, which many consider to be the definitive version. I personally preferred the original translation, flawed as it was. The updated English script is incredibly flowery, which gives the whole thing the feeling of a stage play.
What platforms will it release on?
Final Fantasy Tactics We’d be surprised if Final Fantasy Tactics didn’t get at least a basic remaster for current consoles. The original isn’t a demanding game. As a result, we anticipate a remaster would be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
