Fans have been hoping to hear a Star Fox Switch release date for years now. Unfortunately, it’s another franchise that Nintendo doesn’t seem to know what to do with. Despite having a faithful fanbase and selling well, the series has never pushed forward and established its universe in a way that allows for recurring games. Here’s what we think the chances are for a new Star Fox game or a remake on the Nintendo Switch.
Will we get a Star Fox Switch release date?
So far, there’s no release date set for a Star Fox game on the Switch. Star Fox, Star Fox 2, and Star Fox 64 are available via Nintendo Switch Online. Otherwise, Nintendo has been mum about the future of the series.
Unfortunately, the Star Fox universe hasn’t ever gotten a chance to get established. The original game has been remade twice, first with Star Fox 64 then with Star Fox Zero. In fact, it wouldn’t get a proper sequel until Star Fox 2 was finally released on the SNES Mini in 2017. However, given the huge gaps between releases, what’s the best way to revitalize the series? Should Nintendo remake the original game for the fourth time, or should the Star Fox Switch title be a total reboot? Alternatively, should it pick up where Star Fox: Assault or Command left off?
It seems like Nintendo might be reluctant to dive back into Star Fox because of its failure to launch plotwise. This could be a great opportunity because it allows the developers to take it in any direction. Whatever lore there is can be adjusted or ignored to take the series in any direction.
However, the Switch is five years old, and we’re sure to see its successor soon. That means time is running out for Star Fox to get a Switch debut. It’s entirely possible we won’t see another game in the series until the Switch 2 is on the market.
