Battlefield fans are always thinking one step ahead, which is why many have their sights set on Battlefield 6. The next series entry has some big shoes to fill, assuming it does actually take on a proper numbered title. But is there a Battlefield 6 release date to mark on the calendar? And is there any word on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch versions?
Battlefield 6 Release Date – PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
As far as we know, the developers at DICE are not working on Battlefield 6. At the very least, they haven’t mentioned it. As such, the game has no release date — we’ll first have to hear confirmation that it even exists.
With that said, DICE will almost certainly release Battlefield 6 at some point in the future. The series has been going strong for two decades, and there’s no reason to think that’s about to change.
However, there’s no telling when the sixth numbered installment will arrive. That’s because DICE has used a very confusing numbering system throughout the entire series. For example, Battlefield 1 released in 2016, three years after Battlefield 4. And the newest series release, Battlefield 2042, released a full 16 years after Battlefield 2142.
In other words, the next Battlefield game may not be called BF6 at all. Perhaps it will be a new Hardline, or even a new Bad Company. Without knowing that the game will be numbered, there’s no telling when the next game will release, let alone what it will be called.
Will Battlefield 6 be on PS4 or Nintendo Switch?
Whenever and however it may release, Battlefield 6 probably won’t release for PS4 or the Nintendo Switch. None of the series’ games have released for the Switch so far, and there’s no reason to think that will change in the future.
However, that answer ignores a more obvious part of the question. We don’t know when Battlefield 6 will release, so there’s no way of knowing which consoles it will launch for. Sure, the very next series entry will probably have cross-gen functionality with the PS4 and Xbox One. But after that, the series will probably go current-generation only.
Then again, by the time DICE chooses to name a game Battlefield 6, we may be playing on different hardware entirely. For now, there’s no word on development, so there’s no release date or known platforms. Fans will have to hang tight with BF2042 in the meantime.
