Overwatch 2 Release Date: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

It didn’t take long for Overwatch to become a staple in the competitive gaming community. Small wonder why so many players are so excited to see what Overwatch 2 brings to the table. Of course, aside from its announcement, we really haven’t seen too much in the way of extra information. But while the release date may still be some time away, we do at least know which consoles Overwatch 2 will launch for.

What’s the Overwatch 2 release date?

Overwatch 2 release date and platforms - PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Switch

Overwatch 2 has not been given a firm release date yet. By all accounts, it was previously planned to launch around holiday 2022, but that no longer seems to be the case. It’s likely that Overwatch 2 will release in 2023, but we’re still waiting to learn a specific date.

With that said, work does seem to be moving along. In fact, Blizzard says that certain competitive Overwatch players will gain access to an early build of the game in 2022. Their feedback will probably help smooth out any final bumps toward release. After that, we’re likely to hear more details about when the game is planned to launch globally.

Overwatch 2 Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

Good news: Overwatch 2 will launch for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Thanks to cross-generation support, the game should also work on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S.

Unlike more traditional sequels, Overwatch 2 seems to be more like an evolution of the original. In fact, it runs on the same engine, albeit an upgraded version. According to Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan, the idea was to prevent the player base from fragmenting. By keeping both titles compatible, the hope is to eventually merge both clients together.

In other words, if you play Overwatch now, you’ll be able to play Overwatch 2 on the same platform. And, if you’ve already made the jump to current-generation consoles, the game should run on those, too.
