The conclusion of Resident Evil: Village left us with plenty of questions, and fans are ready for the Resident Evil 9 release date to get answers. The eighth main entry in the series released in 2021, so it’ll be a while before we get RE9, which leaves the platforms it’ll launch on in question. We’ll take a look at when we might see the sequel to RE8 below.
What’s the release date for Resident Evil 9?
Capcom hasn’t confirmed a release date for Resident Evil 9 yet. However, multiple rumors have stated that Resident Evil 4 remake is in the works, and that will almost certainly be released before RE9. So, we’d guess it’ll drop in 2024 or 2025.
We have many questions after completing RE: Village, and some of them might be the focus of RE9. There’s DLC in development that might give us some answers, but we have some good guesses about what Resident Evil 9’s plot will be about.
We know that Chris Redfield and Hound Wolf Squad have essentially gone rogue. Chris stated that the BSAA is no longer trustworthy and is rife with corruption. In the finishing moments of RE: Village his convictions are proven correct when he finds that at least some of the BSAA soldiers are actually Bio-Organic Weapons. This discovery means that the BSAA is essentially using the technology they were formed to fight.
It’s possible that Resident Evil 9 might take the series full circle, with Chris taking on the BSAA alongside Leon, Claire, Jill, Barry, and other surviving allies. However, no details have been revealed yet, and the game is likely several years from release, so there’s no way to know for sure.
What platforms is RE9 releasing on?
Since it’ll be several years until RE9 release, we highly doubt it’ll get last-gen versions. Capcom was iffy about releasing RE: Village on PS4 and Xbox One, and only did so after the console shortage and fan demand. It’s obvious the company wants to move on and focus development on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and that’ll likely be the case for RE9.
