Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Switch Release Date

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Nintendo Switch Release Date

It’s common knowledge that the Final Fantasy series was founded on Nintendo hardware. That exclusivity ended years ago, though, and most Final Fantasy games are now multi-platform. Classic series entries in particular can be found on just about any device imaginable. However, the same isn’t true for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. The polished re-releases of Square Enix’s earliest games are so far only available on PC and mobile. The next question is perhaps obvious: When are they coming to Nintendo Switch?

When is Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster coming to Switch?

When is Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster coming to Switch?

There is currently no word of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games releasing for the Nintendo Switch. In fact, the developers have no plans to bring Pixel Remaster games to any platforms beyond PC and mobile. For now, the developers say they’ll only look into console ports depending on player demand and feedback.

The whole situation is a bit odd. The classic Final Fantasy games — the ones being treated to a Pixel Remaster — were originally exclusive to Nintendo hardware. However, those titles are not available on Nintendo’s latest handheld, despite the originals being available on previous Nintendo consoles.

Normally, it would be a matter of waiting until the inevitable console releases. However, the team at Square Enix have simply decided not to release the Pixel Remasters on consoles. According to the official Pixel Remaster FAQ, the team “may look into making the games playable on other platforms,” but only “if there is a desire for it.”

Put another way, Square Enix isn’t very interested in releasing Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster for the Nintendo Switch. The same applies to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X|S. The only way the studio would consider it is if fans reach out and express their desire for it. Otherwise, there are no plans to start looking into new platforms.

For now, and until we hear otherwise, there’s no date when Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will release for Switch. If you want to check out the newly polished versions, you’ll need to play on PC or mobile. Otherwise, you can always track down the classic games just about anywhere. The only catch is that you’ll miss out on all the modern bells and whistles.
