Will there be a FF7 Remake Switch release date?

Now that it’s out on PC, fans are wondering if Final Fantasy 7 Remake will get a Switch release date. Taking the reimagining of Cloud and company’s adventure on the go with Nintendo’s console would be a dream come true for many, but is it feasible? We’ll look at FF7 Remake’s chances of coming to the Switch below.

Will Final Fantasy 7 Remake come to Nintendo Switch?

Will Final Fantasy 7 Remake come to Nintendo Switch

There’s little to no chance of FF7 Remake getting a Switch release date. The handheld’s hardware just isn’t up to the task of running it. Square Enix would have to spend an enormous effort to optimize it. Seeing as the PC version isn’t up to par for many, we doubt the company would put forth more effort the bring the game to another platform.

Unfortunately, the Switch is getting increasingly long in the tooth. As studios drop the PS4 and Xbox One in favor of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it’s going to take even more work to port games to the Switch. Devs aren’t going to limit themselves to making games that can also run on the handheld. They’re also not going to essentially remake titles to release a Switch version. So, owners of the console shouldn’t expect much support when it comes to multi-platform titles.

The exception to this rule is cloud gaming. It’s possible that FF7 Remake could come to the Switch as a cloud version. However, Capcom seems to be the only studio investing in this area, and it doesn’t seem like it’s taken off for them. The most likely avenue for Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch would be if GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Streaming came to the console. However, we doubt Nintendo would allow rival hardware companies to publish apps on its platform, so the chances of seeing FF7 Remake or any of its sequels on Switch are extremely low.
