Xbox Cloud Gaming ‘Lots of people are playing’ Fix: Why is queue taking so long?

The Xbox Cloud Gaming service is a hit with fans, to the extent that a new error is cropping up. The “lots of people are playing” message will hold you in a queue, preventing you from streaming a game. It’s unsurprisingly an annoying sight for Xbox owners looking to dive into a game. As such, we’ve got details on how to fix the Xbox Cloud Gaming “lots of people are playing” error.

How to fix Xbox Cloud Gaming “Lots of people are playing” error

To fix the Xbox Cloud Gaming “Lots of people are playing error,” players will want to:

  • Remain in the queue.
    • Waiting in the queue is the quickest way to get into the game.
  • Make sure the Xbox doesn’t autosleep.
    • If you have autosleep enabled, make sure the Xbox doesn’t automatically shut down.
  • Try again later.
    • If the queue is taking too long, trying again later can often help.

Players will more than likely encounter this error when a lot of people are trying to use this service at one time. The servers only have a limited capacity, so if you don’t manage to get in, you’re placed in the queue. That’s when you’ll see this message. As such, it’s simply a matter of waiting your turn, until some space becomes free.

Luckily, the queues on Xbox Cloud Gaming tend to go by rather quickly. On the waiting screen, you’ll see a projected ETA of when your turn will arrive, meaning you can plan your playing sessions accordingly. Equally, it doesn’t seem like the sort of problem that will go away, as more people continue to join the service. What we can hope is that Microsoft improves the servers, so more people can play at once. That would eliminate these pesky waiting times, this is sadly not guaranteed. Therefore, all you can do for now is wait patiently for the timer to run down.
