Hawkeye Episode 4: Who is Wendy Conrad a.k.a. Bombshell in Marvel?

Hawkeye episode 4is out now, with some subtle nods to characters within wider comic lore. Namely, there’s a focus on Wendy Conrad, one of the LARPers whose comic-book characterization is starkly different. In fact, she’s a foil to Hawkeye in many scenarios — so will that happen in the Disney Plus show? We dig into this character, also known as Bombshell in the comics, exploring her role in Hawkeye.

Who is Wendy Conrad in Hawkeye episode 4?

Hawkeye Wendy Conrad

Wendy Conrad, played by Adetinpo Thomas, is one of the LARPers whom Hawkeye and Kate Bishop go to in order to retrieve their trick arrows. While her role is minor, she’s a much more significant character in the comics.

Yes, Wendy Conrad is better known as Bombshell, an assassin-for-hire who, in a late 1980s comic run, was hired to take down Hawkeye. Her first attempt involved Bombshell disguising as a nun to kidnap him. When that failed, she was tasked by Crossfire to break Hawkeye’s arm, which again failed.

However, it seems that Wendy Conrad’s appearance in Hawkeye episode 4 is going down a different path. In this installment, she gives Clint a bag full of trick arrows for their fight against Echo. This bag even has ‘Bombshell’ embroidered on it, as a nice nod to her comic origin. Given she’s allied with Clint and Kate, it seems unlikely that she’ll turn out to be a villain in the show. Equally, it seems like the show has swapped her martial arts proficiency for a more laidback personality as a role-player. As such, she doesn’t quite carry the same threat.

Instead, the main assassins going after Hawkeye are Yelena, from Black Widow, and Echo. Whether Wendy Conrad will emerge as Clint’s ally to stave off these threats, we don’t yet know. T
