Halo Infinite User is Banned Reasons: Why am I banned in Ranked?

Some Halo Infinite players are finding themselves banned in the ranked playlist for seemingly no reason. It can be incredibly frustrating for users to try to rank up in the game only to find they’ve received a ban. Unfortunately, the game gives no information other than the time remaining in the ban to say why the user is banned in Halo Infinite when they try to start ranked. Unfortunately, this is one part of the game that reminds us that it’s still technically a beta.

Why do I get the User is Banned message in Ranked in Halo Infinite?

The reason users are getting banned in Halo Infinite ranked is because they left a match before they finished it. The game punishes those that leave ranked matches by issuing a ban, regardless of whether it was voluntary or due to internet issues.

How long am I banned from ranked for?

The list of ranked ban times in Halo Infinite is:

  • First Ban: Five Minutes
  • Second Ban: 15 Minutes
  • Third Ban: 30 Minutes
  • Fourth Ban: One Hour
  • Fifth Ban: Three Hours
  • Sixth and Consecutive Bans: 16 Hours

Unfortunately, it’s unclear when the ban count resets or how many games players have to leave to receive their first ban. It appears that the system kicks in when the player has left a ranked match 2+ times. But, again, it’s not clear as to whether those two times have to be within a certain period or if the ban will kick in regardless.

Of course, this system is flawed because players can get stuck in situations that are beyond their control. For example, sporadic internet issues could easily cause a player to drop multiple games over a short period. Additionally, we’ve personally had ranked matches where our entire team left the game at the start. However, to avoid Halo Infinite’s auto-ban, the game expects users to play the whole match to the end, even if it’s 4v1.
