Halo Infinite Derank

How to derank in Halo Infinite

There are always players looking into a Halo Infinite derank option, both on purpose and also just to figure out how it can happen. It certainly seems to be possible for players to change ranks due to performance in multiplayer, but how is the act of deranking accomplished in the latest Halo game? Can players derank in Halo Infinite or otherwise rank down due to poor play?

Halo Infinite Derank: Can you rank down?

Halo Infinite Derank

It’s hard to do on purpose, but players in Halo Infinite can occasionally rank down due to personal performance in a match, usually based on kills against deaths and successfully or unsuccessfully running objectives. The kill/death ratio doesn’t always matter but performance on objectives combined with how many kills the player has usually does. Any overall wins in matches don’t matter when determining rank as much as player performance — so players can lose many matches but won’t rank down unless they particularly performed badly. The same goes for increasing rank.

As for whether it is worth deliberately decreasing in rank in Halo Infinite, there is no particular benefit but it may mean that the game’s matchmaking may put the player up against less-hardcore players — possibly leading to a more enjoyable experience or at least the opportunity to complete various challenges in the Battle Pass, if that’s the player’s main goal. Importantly though, the only way to increase or decrease in rank is to play Ranked matches, so if the player doesn’t want the stress of considering rank they should just play Unranked matches instead — which is probably the best place to farm XP for the Battle Pass anyway.
