A second Dune movie has basically been confirmed by Warner Bros but doesn’t have a release date at this time, although the earliest audiences could see Dune part 2 is around October 2023.
The closest comparison to Dune fans have is to the two It movies, based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Andy Muschietti. They were released by the same studio as Dune, Warner Bros, and the movies were always planned as a two-part story that divides a massive book into a more manageable running time. It Chapter One released in September 2017, and It Chapter Two released exactly two years later in September 2019.
While Dune is a more effects-heavy movie than It, depending on how much work has already been done fans could see Dune 2 in theaters two years from now. Warner Bros CEO Ann Sarnoff has basically confirmed that Dune part 2 is already happening, regardless of box office returns as the movie only opens today with an HBO Max release alongside it.

The Dune movie opens today, October 21, and Warner Bros clearly hope it will be a big success as they have already arranged a crossover with Epic’s battle royale phenomenon Fortnite, with a new Dune game connected to the movie in the works at Conan Exiles studio Funcom. A sequel will presumably feature more of Zendaya’s Chani as well as Stellan Skarsgård’s ruthless Baron Harkonnen.
