Metroid Dread secret ending: Are there multiple endings?

This is a game that demands thoughtful exploration, so you may be wondering if the story itself has additional mysteries hiding in wait. Just to note: Don’t worry about us ruining the conclusion. There will be no story spoilers in this guide.

Does Metroid Dread have a secret ending?

Does Metroid Dread have a secret ending?

There is no secret ending in Metroid Dread. In fact, there are no multiple endings at all; the story can only end one way. However, you can unlock different rewards based on the difficulty setting and overall time required to beat the game.

To reiterate: Metroid Dread only has one ending. And that’s probably what you came here to find out. Don’t worry about playing the game a certain way or making certain decisions. The story will always play out as intended. However, you may want to stay vigilant in Ferenia to avoid a softlock glitch.

As for the rest, there are some slight changes to endgame rewards depending on how quickly you completed the game. Extra artwork can be unlocked when beating the game on either Normal or Hard mode, as well as when beating the game under certain time frames. Here’s a look at the different rewards:

  • Metroid: Zero Mission artwork — Beat the game on Normal difficulty
  • Metroid: Samus Returns artwork — Beat the game on Normal in eight hours or less
  • Super Metroid artwork — Beat the game on Normal in four hours or less
  • Other M artwork — Beat the game on Hard difficulty
  • Metroid Fusion artwork — Beat the game on Hard in eight hours or less
  • Metroid Dread artwork — Beat the game on Hard in four hours or less
  • Zero Suit Samus artwork — Unlocks after all other rewards are unlocked

As you may have noticed, Metroid Dread can be a short game in the hands of skilled players. No surprise that it’s rapidly become a darling of the speedrunning community. Thankfully, speed and its associated rewards are the only real differences when it comes to the finale. Otherwise, the song remains the same. Metroid Dread only has one conclusion; no branching paths, no multiple endings, no secret ending.
