Metroid Dread PS5

Is there a Metroid Dread PS5, Xbox, and PC release date?

Is Metroid Dread coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC? That’s the main question on the minds of Metroid fans hoping to experience the new game on the whole range of gaming platforms. While the series has traditionally been tied to Nintendo hardware, this new dawn for the franchise could be the perfect opportunity to welcome players on different consoles. Fear not, as we’ve got all the details on whether there is a Metroid Dread PS5, Xbox, and PC release date.

When is Metroid Dread coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC?

Metroid Dread PS5

Bad news for Metroid fans on non-Nintendo platforms. Metroid Dread is not coming to PS5, Xbox, or PC. It’ll launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and looks set to stay that way for good.

While it’s not good news for people wanting to play the game who don’t have a Switch, this news shouldn’t entirely come as surprise. Ever since the first Metroid game in 1986, the series has been produced and released solely by Nintendo. Its various instalments have landed on all the Nintendo hardware you can think of, from the NES to the Wii. The most recent entry before Metroid Dread was Metroid: Samus Returns in 2017, which launched on the 3DS.

As such, it means those without a Switch won’t be able to play Metroid Dread at launch. Equally, it’s not worth holding your breath for a multi-platform port down the line. Nintendo is often reluctant to port its exclusives to other consoles – especially its tentpole franchises. In fact, the last time you could play as Mario on a non-Nintendo console was back in 2005. He appeared in SSX on Tour – but that’s a rare case of a Nintendo property coming to other consoles.

Therefore, it seems like Switch is the only way to play Metroid Dread. It’s a shame for those without it – but that’s just how Nintendo operates with first-party titles.
