Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models are the best available iOS devices. As such, they offer exclusive features like ProRes video support for higher-quality recordings. Unfortunately, however, functionality won’t be available on the September 24 launch day. So, when is the iPhone 13 ProRes release date? Here’s when iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max owners can expect to make ProRes video recordings using the built-in phone camera.
When is ProRes video coming to iPhone 13 Pro?
ProRes video recording is “coming soon” to iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max handsets. Apple is yet to reveal an exact iPhone 13 ProRes release date, though it could launch as soon as October 2021.
iPhone 12 Pro’s ProRAW feature didn’t release alongside that smartphone either. While the Apple handset would launch in October, ProRAW functionality came the following month in November. With this release schedule in mind, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max ProRes launch date could be October 2021.
That’s just the best estimate based on past precedent for now; in the absence of an official announcement, it’s hard to say exactly when this key feature will drop. iPhone 13 Pro’s video features are a big selling point for many Apple customers — there’s the notable Cinematic Mode and, of course, ProRes video support. Unlike the former, ProRes is a codec that captures video in a less compressed format. This makes footage easier to edit, as it retains more information that’s helpful for tasks like professional color grading.
iPhone 13 Pro ProRes support will arrive via a future iOS 15 update. If said software patch follows the established release schedule, the wait shouldn’t be too long before users can shoot higher-quality videos. Due to iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max shipping delays, it’s possible that iOS users receiving their handsets in November will have immediate access to the ProRes feature.
Pro/Pro Max customers aren’t the only ones facing potential delays, however. There’s also an iPhone 13 Mini delay for certain models.
