How to fix PS5 blinking blue light

If you’re one of the lucky few with your hands on the PS5, the last thing you’ll want is to encounter the blinking blue light. While it isn’t as serious as something like the Xbox 360’s red ring of death, it’s certainly an error you don’t want your new console to have. Luckily, there are a number of ways to bypass the blinking blue light and fix your PS5. We’ve got all the information you need on how to resolve the pesky blue light on PS5.

To fix the PS5 blinking blue light, players will want to:

  1. First, boot the console up in safe mode.
  2. Make sure you’ve saved all the data on your SSD.
  3. Hold down the power button until it makes two waves of beeps.
  4. The console will now be in safe mode, where you can start troubleshooting the problem.

Once in safe mode, the first step is to check that your system software is fully updated. A vast new system update came out recently, so it’s worth making sure your console is running that. Big updates like these always contain fixes and patches, so it’s a good idea to double-check.

If your system software is up-to-date but you’re still getting the blinking blue light, there’s plenty more to try. In safe mode, selecting the Rebuild Database option will comb through your SSD to look for any corruptions, which could help resolve the issue. The good news is that it doesn’t impact the data on your SSD, so your files will be safe even by doing it. As such, this is a reliable next step.

The last resort, if you’re still getting the issue, is to completely reset your PS5. That’s also done through safe mode, via the Reset PS5 menu. Make sure you’ve backed up your data externally or in the cloud, as this option will wipe your console entirely. It should also resolve any lingering problems.
