Splitgate is the latest free-to-play game to make waves across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It’s a multiplayer shooter based around portals, putting a wild new spin on the FPS genre. Since it’s free to download and play, is it available to all players? Is Splitgame on the Nintendo Switch, or does the developer have plans for a future release?
Is Splitgate coming to the Nintendo Switch?
Developer 1047 Games hasn’t mentioned any firm plans to bring Splitgate to the Nintendo Switch. While the studio is interested in the idea, no work has begun on developing a Switch version of the game.
This information was revealed in a developer question-and-answer panel posted on Twitch (via Gamespot). 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx said that “part of the [game’s] vision is we want [it] to be available on everything. We want to be available on mobile, Switch — I mean, everything.”
However, a desire to have Splitgate release for the Nintendo Switch is not the same as intention. Proulx specifically said that “we haven’t started on it” when referring to a Switch or mobile port of the game. Likewise, he said a Mac release of Splitgate is “not on the top of our priorities.”
In short, 1047 Games wants to put Splitgate on the Switch, but the studio hasn’t yet began work on a Switch version. As such, cautious optimism may be best: So long as the game continues to enjoy success — and as long as users can get in — the developers will continue to consider launching in on additional platforms.
For now, Splitgate is not coming to the Nintendo Switch. Even if it’s planned, no work has begun on a Switch port. Thankfully, it’s available just about everywhere else, including on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and on current-generation consoles via backward compatibility. As for Nintendo’s handheld or mobile ports, we’ll just have to wait and see.
