Chris Evans potentially appearing in Marvel’s What If? has got MCU fans excited, with many wondering if the Captain America actor appeared in episode 1 of the new Disney Plus series. With Steve Rogers sounding very similar to the actor in the show, many are wondering if Cap has reprised his role, or if Chris Evans is done with the MCU after all. Here’s all you need to know.
Is Chris Evans in Marvel’s What If?
Chris Evans does not make an appearance in Marvel’s What If?, with the not-so-Captain America version of Steve Rogers instead being portrayed by a different actor. Chris Evans’ Marvel contract expired after Avengers: Endgame, with the actor having been vocal about not wishing to reprise the role, meaning that he is done with the MCU for at least the foreseeable future. This means that What If?, the first major MCU reappearance of Steve Rogers since Endgame, does not feature Chris Evans.
Is Chris Evans done with the MCU?
However, that’s not to say that Evans isn’t completely ruled out of a return to the bank-rolling multimedia franchise. According to a Deadline report earlier this year, Evans was eyeing up a return to the MCU for a future project, with a deal having reportedly been laid out to see him return in “at least one Marvel property.”
This report received a “no comment” from Marvel, with Evans having previously spoken of him wanting to bring his Captain America to an end. “Yes, I think it is [the end],” Evans said in a Variety interview. “It was a great run, and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it, in my opinion. It was such a good experience, and I think it’s better left that way.”
Judging by Steve Rogers’ new actor in What If?, it seems that the animated series was not the project that will reportedly see his return. Still, episode one was a good start for the new Disney Plus series, which looks to show alternate realities of the Marvel films we’re all familiar with.
