Depending on who you ask, the world may be heading toward inevitable nuclear destruction. Humanity has already seen how devastating nuclear power can be, but new horror/survival title Chernobylite wants us to take an even closer look at the evidence. The Farm 51’s latest release is tense and frightening, especially for single players brave enough to explore the ruins of Chernobyl. But is it possible to have friends join in co-op? Does Chernobylite have any sort of multiplayer?
Does Chernobylite have local couch co-op multiplayer?
Chernobylite does not have co-op nor any sort of multiplayer component. It’s a single-player game only, meaning there’s no couch co-op or online multiplayer.
Ultimately, this news is a bit of a mixed bag. On the bright side, focusing on a single-player campaign has allowed the developers at The Farm 51 to weave a complex, non-linear storyline. That means the game features a rich solo campaign, but that comes at the expense of leaving your friends behind. Still, having entire groups get together online to complete quests would make for a very different sort of game — something less like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and more like Fallout 76.
However, it’s not unreasonable for players to think Chernobylite might have co-op multiplayer. Many recent survival games — Valheim, for instance — have become fan favorites because of co-op, letting groups band together to form their own stories. Plus, survival can be harrowing for players who aren’t used to the tension and challenge. As such, some take solace in having allies around, whether its to play seriously or have a bit of fun.
Chernobylite isn’t like those games, though. It was designed specifically to be a single-player experience. The inherent tension of being alone in a foreign, hostile environment is all part of the thrill.
For better or worse, Chernobylite does not have co-op. It’s a single-player game, meaning there’s no multiplayer whatsoever. You can’t bring your friends along for the ride, but that’s kind of the point; otherwise, you might actually feel safe.
