Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice grew to become one of the most critically acclaimed releases in all of gaming. Small wonder everyone’s excited about its sequel, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. However, Ninja Theory’s upcoming game won’t be following the same release pattern as its previous release. Notably, it will be available on fewer platforms. The next question is obvious: Will Hellblade 2 release for PS5?
Is Hellblade 2 coming to PlayStation 5?
Sorry, PS5 players: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is not coming to PlayStation consoles. Speaking on Twitter, Xbox General Manager Aaron Greenberg confirmed that Hellblade 2 is being developed exclusively for Xbox and PC.
Considering that the previous game was made available for PlayStation consoles, this may take some players by surprise. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice actually launched for PC and PlayStation first, releasing as a timed-exclusive in August of 2017. It arrived on Xbox One about eight months later, and a Nintendo Switch port arrived exactly one year after that.
Things are obviously a bit different with the sequel. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is not simply a timed exclusive on Xbox — it’s an outright Xbox exclusive. That’s because Microsoft acquired developer Ninja Theory back in June of 2018. The developers were very excited about the merger, saying that Microsoft could offer them “full creative independence.” Of course, since Ninja Theory is now part of Xbox Game Studios, all of their games will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, including Hellblade 2.
You won’t have to have the latest hardware to play it, though. That’s because the developers also plan to make Hellblade 2 playable on Xbox One. This means last-generation players can still try it out, though they obviously won’t get the best-looking version of the experience.
In short, Hellblade 2 is not coming to PlayStation consoles. Microsoft now owns Ninja Theory, making the game an Xbox and PC exclusive. You’ll be able to play it on Xbox One, but it won’t release for the PlayStation 4 or PS5.
