iOS 15 Supported Devices: Compatible phone list

Apple has taken stage at the WWDC 2021 to reveal the latest version of its mobile operating system. iOS 15 is the biggest and best yet, with a multitude of updated productivity and usability features. However, with any new OS comes the risk that your phone may be incompatible with the latest version. Here’s a look at the full list of iOS 15 supported devices, including all compatible mobile phones and tablets.

iOS 15 is compatible with the iPhone 6s and newer. Specifically, iOS 15 is supported on iPhones with an A9 or newer chipset. However, some A9 devices, including the first-generation iPhone SE, are not supported.

The full list of iOS 15 compatible phones includes:

  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 7

Though iPads run on a slightly adjusted version of the mobile operating system, the following iPads will technically have support for the iOS 15 core:

  • iPad (6th, 7th, 8th generation)
  • iPad Pro (9.7-inch and 10.5-inch)
  • iPad Pro (11-inch, 2018 and newer)

Which iPhones aren’t compatible with iOS 15?

Nearly all iPhones that can run iOS 14 will be able to support iOS 15. Previous rumors that only A10 Fusion chipsets and later would be supported have since been proven false, as iOS 15 is compatible even with the iPhone 6s and SE.

However, that’s not to say that all reasonably modern iPhones are compatible. Primarily, the first-generation iPhone SE is not compatible with iOS 15. The seventh-generation iPod Touch, which technically supports iOS 14, is also incompatible with the newest version.

There’s still no firm iOS 15 release date just yet, though Apple says it’s due to launch for supported devices this fall. Based on past launches, however, you can look forward to it landing this September.
