The Mass Effect Legendary Edition 1.02 update patch notes don’t add anything huge like the third game’s multiplayer, but they do make the well-regarded bundle more stable. This hefty 9.7 GB patch fixes the crashes the game was having on the Xbox Series X, a particularly nasty problem that was infecting a certain portion playing on Microsoft’s most powerful console. However, that problem is only partially solved in the May 17 update.
A Mass Effect Legendary Edition Xbox Series X crash is on the way
EA explained that crashing on the Xbox Series X will still happen — hence the word “main” in the notes — but the problem will be fully squashed in a future update. Apparently, the game can still crash on the console if players enable or disable the headset while in the launcher.
“Fixed the main issue where the launcher would crash or become unresponsive on Xbox Series X when using a wireless headset,” reads EA’s blog post. “Known issue: This can still happen if you enable/disable a headset in the launcher. A future fix will resolve this issue.”
But this update also has some key fixes for players on all platforms. All three games now have better trophy and achievement tracking. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is unique in that it has a trophy or achievement list for each game as well as a shorter overarching one that tracks kills, love interests, and playing on the hardest difficulty. Kill tracking seemed to have been buggy, but those issues seem to have been ironed out.
There also seem to be some minor graphical improvements. There are better overall eye shaders, improved textures in the first game, and stronger lighting, rendering, and VFX in the second game. The third game seemed to only get the aforementioned eye shaders and trophy and achievement fixes.
