Resident Evil Village PC Slowdown: how to improve RE8 PC performance

Many people checking out the latest Resident Evil title on PC seem to be struggling with Resident Evil Village PC slowdown issues, or just general performance hits, especially compared to the recent PC demo. There’s already a fix for in-game stuttering, but while players await the latest Nvidia or AMD drivers here’s how to make the Resident Evil Village PC version run like the demo with the least amount of slowdown.

How to improve Resident Evil Village PC performance

To get the best possible performance from Resident Evil Village on PC, players will need to adjust their graphics settings, update their Nvidia and AMD drivers (where available) to the specific ones for the game, and possibly do some tweaking in their graphics card settings outside the game too.

When heading to Display options on PC, the bars at the bottom are a good indication of where the power’s going, but it’s the ‘Graphics Memory’ numbers that need to be watched — go over the number on the right, or just into the red, and performance will take a hit. A small reduction in Image Quality should help. Rendering mode should be set to ‘Interlaced’. Lower Shadow Quality and Ambient Occlusion too, these are big resource hogs. Alternatively, simply choose to ‘Prioritize Performance’ to keep things straightforward.

Keep an eye out for the latest Nvidia and AMD drivers with specific support for Resident Evil Village. Nvidia’s 466.27 drivers are out now and include RE8 optimization, and AMD’s should be out soon. Outside the game, using Nvidia Control Panel, head to ‘Manage 3D Settings’, choose the game, and change ‘Power Management Mode’ to maximize performance. These all should help getting Resident Evil Village to run closer to the demo’s performance on PC.
