Viewers may find that YouTube lags when scrolling, with a peculiar issue affecting the video-sharing site in which its pages appear to be lagging. Fortunately, there is a way to fix YouTube lagging when you scroll. Here’s how to do it.
How to fix YouTube lagging when you scroll
If YouTube lags when you scroll, this is most commonly a browser issue or a problem with an extension you’re running. As a result, to fix it you must either uninstall the browser or your extensions.
Users from Chrome to Safari have reported YouTube lagging as they’re scrolling, so it’s not a problem that is specific to one browser. To uninstall your browser on Windows 10, navigate to Add or remove programs from the search bar. Then, go to Chrome, Safari, or whichever browser you’re using and uninstall it. Use another browser such as Microsoft Edge to reinstall the browser and try again.
To remove a browser on Mac, you can use Spotlight to find it, then press and hold the Command key while double-clicking the app in Spotlight. Then, drag the app to the Bin and empty it to remove it from your Mac. Deleting Safari on a Mac is more complicated, with you required to disable System Integrity Protection in order to do so, though as it’s an embedded application doing so can cause issues with your computer so we would advise against it.
If uninstalling your browser doesn’t work, accessing your extensions library in your browser and disabling them should be the solution. Extensions such as adblocks can cause such issues, so individually disable or uninstall each of your extensions and then retry watching a YouTube video.
For Chrome users, hardware acceleration can be an additional cause of lag. To disable it, click on the three-dot menu in the top-right of your browser, then select Advanced. Click System, then disable hardware acceleration from here. After doing so, you should fix YouTube lagging when you scroll in Chrome.
