One of the coolest new items to land in Fortnite is the Breathless Blades harvesting tool. That’s right, these aren’t your usual pickaxes. Instead, they’re a dual-wield set of pink-tinged blades that allow you to gather resources in peerless style. And, like many of the best items in Fortnite, they’re quite rare. Here’s how to get the Breathless Blades for yourself.
How to get the Breathless Blades in Fortnite
The Breathless Blades in Fortnite are a reward for completing Hearts Wild quests or for earning a top five ranking in Hearts Wild Team Battles. Though they released at the start of Chapter 2 Season 6, their unlock requirements had to have been completed during the Hearts Wild events last February.
You read that correctly: For now, it appears there’s no way to unlock the Breathless Blades during Season 6. Even though the new harvesting tool released just today, players must have completed the prerequisite challenges during Chapter 2 Season 5.
In case you missed it, Hearts Wild Team Battles were introduced in an event that kicked off on February 10, 2021. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this event saw 65 teams of up to 20,000 players duking it out to prove themselves the best in their region. Players who managed to finish in first place received five awards: The Hearts Wild Team Battles Banner, Perfect Match Emoticon, Reel Love Spray, Shuffly Shapes Wrap, and the Breathless Blades. Luckily, even a fifth place position would unlock the new harvesting tool.
Otherwise, you’ll need to have completed Hearts Wild themed quests, which ran from February 8 through February 15. The challenges involved helping Big Chuggus and Lovely in their efforts to spread love around the island, or helping lonely old Fishstick find himself a partner for the holiday.
Hopefully you were able to take part in Fortnite’s Hearts Wild event. If so, chances are good you’ll have unlocked the Breathless Blades already. Otherwise, like other rare items, you’ll have to wait until the crew at Epic Games decides to re-release the dual-wield pickaxe alternatives sometime in the future. In the meantime, catch up on when you can expect the April 2021 Crew Pack to release, or brush up on how to craft the Hunter’s Cloak.
