The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos: How to ask a companion to be the bad inspector

The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos DLC lets players become an inspector. And given the tropes of the genre it tries to parody, it also lets players play “good inspector, bad inspector” in one of the conversations. This unlocks the “Mutt and Jeff” trophy or achievement. Here’s how to ask a companion to be the bad inspector in Murder on Eridanos.

This is part of the “Prince of Tossball” mission where players have to speak to Black Hole Bertie, the tossball player with the weird hat. He’s at the Piraeus Spaceport at the above spot on the map and one of the suspects in the case.

Speak to him for a bit and eventually players will get to the above conversation branch where he says “I don’t wanna tell you. I’ll get in trouble.” From there, at least one of the options will have the player ask one of the companions to play bad inspector. Parvati and Felix are in the above examples. Obviously, players can’t do this if they don’t have anyone in their party. SAM also seemed to not have an option for this. Some characters, like Parvati, may need to persuaded to be bad inspector first.

Just be sure to let the partner keep going after they’ve started. In other words, don’t interject. Let them do what they do and sit back. Ellie is particularly good a this, but Parvati and Felix will need some coaxing. Once done, the trophy or achievement should pop.

Just to be safe, make a backup save here before talking to Bertie as this can go wrong in a number of different ways. This will make sure this missable trophy or achievement isn’t entirely missable. Finding all the Science weapons can also be missable, so here’s how to find those, too.
