Black Ops Cold War are crouched footsteps silent

Black Ops Cold War | Does crouching make footsteps silent?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are wondering if their crouched footsteps can be heard by enemies. Crouch-walking is a great way to get the jump on opponents, but can someone with a good headset hear an ambush coming? Straight from Treyarch, here’s the official verdict on Black Ops Cold War crouched footstep volume.

Does crouching make footsteps silent in CoD: Black Ops Cold War?

Black Ops Cold War are crouched footsteps silent

Footsteps are a contentious topic when it comes to competitive online shooters; it might seem like a small thing, but subtle sound effects can often spell the difference between life and death. Knowing the ins and outs of the Black Ops Cold War soundscape can make a good player great, and footstep volume is a key area. Fortunately, developer Treyarch has commented on crouched footstep sounds in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Not only that, but the team also detailed what impact the Ninja Perk has on crouch-walking. So, does crouching make footsteps silent in Black Ops Cold War?

Crouching in Black Ops Cold War makes all players’ footsteps “near-silent.” The volume of crouched footsteps is incredibly low as standard, with or without the Ninja Perk equipped.

Treyarch detailed this change in a list of pre-launch alterations. With the team clearly open to altering the soundscape, it’s worth noting that the currently near-silent crouched footsteps could be changed in the future. Until then, however, feel free to disregard the Ninja Perk and get stealthy without it.

Of course, it’s also all the more reason to invest in a good set of cans to help hear bad guys coming. The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core + 7.1 and EPOS|Sennheiser GSP 602 are both worth a look, should anybody be in the market for a new gaming headset.
