Yakuza: Like a Dragon Unlock Job System | How to switch classes

Changing jobs in Yakuza: Like a Dragon allows players to equip their characters with new abilities and gear. However, this feature isn’t unlocked from the start of the game. In fact, the party must spend quite a bit of time as their default job class before taking on new occupations.

Unlocking the job system in Yakuza: Like a Dragon is simple and doesn’t require the player to complete any sub-stories to do so. Players just have to have some patience. However, those who can’t wait to change Ichiban and co into chefs, idols, and breakdancers can read on below for the exact moment they can start changing jobs.

Warning: Minor spoilers below.

How to unlock the job system in Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza Like a Dragon Change jobs

Players will unlock the job class system in Yakuza: Like a Dragon during Chapter 5: The Liumang Man. After returning to the hostess club and defeating Zheng for the second time, the party will decide that the best way to find out more about Lao Ma is to get jobs at his most important business, the Yokohama Trading Company. To do so, they return to Hello Work.

During this visit to Hello Work, players will gain the ability to change classes in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Speaking with Ririka from then on will allow the player to select different jobs for each member of their party. However, when the system is first unlocked, not all jobs will be available. Some classes require a character to be at a certain level or to have a specific Bond Level with Ichiban.

Take care when switching jobs in Yakuza: Like a Dragon as well. Each class has a Job Level, which determines its stat bonuses and which abilities are unlocked. Each time a character is assigned a new job, they are essentially starting from scratch. Each class also uses a particular type of weapon, and characters taking on a new job are equipped with the weakest variation by default. This means players have to find, craft, or purchase one if they want their team to fight most effectively.
