Can you skip cutscenes in Spider-Man: Miles Morales?

Like the original, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales features a rich story. It also features compelling gameplay, however, which some players will be eager to get back to. This leaves those players, and users on a second playthrough, wondering: Can you skip cutscenes in Spider-Man: Miles Morales? Here’s how to skip cutscenes on PS4 and PS5.

Can you skip cutscenes in Spider-Man: Miles Morales?

Spider-Man: Miles Morales features a New Game + mode, allowing users to carry progress between playthroughs. This is always a welcome feature, but, generally speaking, users will want to skip cutscenes while the narrative is still fresh in their minds. Most games have this handy quality of life feature, though (somehow) it still isn’t a universal standard.

Some, but not all, cutscenes can be skipped in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In order to skip a cutscene, users must pause the game and then select the “Skip Cinematic” option from the menu.

Players generally aren’t allowed to skip longer cinematics that are central to the story; the “Skip Cinematic” listing won’t be found in the pause menu on these occasions. Less important cutscenes can be skipped at will.

Although it’s understandable that developer Insomniac Games want players to appreciate Miles Morales‘ story, ideally, all cutscenes would be skippable in NG+ mode at least. It can be frustrating to find that lengthy exposition and the like has to be sat through all over again.

Sony recently revealed that Mies Morales’ Into the Spider-Verse suit is available as a pre-order bonus. In order to match the movie’s distinct visual style, Miles animates at a lower framerate when the suit is equipped. Since some players find that jarring and/or distracting, an option to increase the frame-rate is included. Its inclusion prompts the question of whether certain Spider-Man: Miles Morales unskippable cutscenes might be masking loading or technical processes. With Insomniac improving accessibility and ease of use wherever it can, not letting players skip cutscenes without good reason seems out of place.

Anybody with a copy of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. Hopefully, that added convenience helps to make up for the fact that some cutscenes are unskippable.
