Club 3D DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter

How to convert DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1

You may be wondering if you can convert DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1. After all, DisplayPort 1.4 has the bandwidth to support higher framerates at resolutions past 1080p and can even support things like eARC and Dynamic HDR. Now that there are plenty of affordable HDMI 2.1 compliant TV sets and A/V receivers available, you may want to use the new features it brings for your PC. However, outside of the RTX 3000 series, there are no cards equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports. Unfortunately, that means that even NVIDIA’s previous flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti, can’t push over 60fps at resolutions higher than 1080p since it’s limited to HDMI 2.0b.

How to convert DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1

Fortunately, there is a way to convert DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1. The Club 3D DisplayPort1.4 to HDMI 4K 120Hz HDR Active Adapter allows you to use up to 4K/120Hz on HDMI 2.1 equipped TVs by using a DisplayPort connection. It allows users to take advantage of almost every HDMI 2.1 feature, but there are some caveats to using it.

One major missing feature, one that might turn buyers off entirely, is that the Club 3D adapter doesn’t support G-Sync, Freesync, or Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). According to the manufacturer, this is because GPU makers haven’t added support for the adapter in their drivers. The adapter may work with those functions in the future, but Club 3D hasn’t stated when or if that’ll occur.

Amazon reviewers also report that the Club 3D DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter can be finicky. Some buyers stated that they have to unplug the power to the adapter each time the resolution changes and that HDR can take several tries before it activates correctly. It also appears that audio can be spotty in some instances, and Dolby Vision functionality may be broken currently.

Unfortunately, for now, it seems like Club 3D’s adapter is the only product on the market that will convert DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1. However, when the PS5 and Xbox Series X release, both of which support HDMI 2.1, it’s likely we’ll see other converters hit the market.
