PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds gets frequent updates that introduce new features. However, before those features land in the main game, they’re released to the PTS. If you’re new to the experience, this may be the first time you’ve heard of the PUBG public test server. This guide will answer your most common questions about the PUBG PTS, including what it is and whether or not you need it.
What is the PUBG PTS?
PTS in PUBG refers to the Public Test Server. The PTS is used as a way for players to check out new features before they arrive in the game’s official servers. In essence, it gives you a glimpse of the future of PUBG.
Most official updates will land in the public server first. In fact, that’s sort of the point: It gives both players and developers a chance to make sure that new features are working as intended. The changes may be small, or they may be large. It all depends on how ambitious the game’s upcoming update will be.
Do I need PUBG PTS?
Most players do not need access to the PUBG PTS. Since the public test server is meant as a way to test out upcoming features, participation is entirely optional. There’s no penalty for choosing not to play in it.
If you don’t plan to jump into the test server, you can safely delete or uninstall any PTS files. However, if you eventually decide to check it out, you’ll have to download those files again.
Does test server progress carry over?
Any progress you make in the PUBG PTS will not carry over into official servers. The test servers are meant to make sure everything actually works before going live. If a bug is found that allows for item duplication or unintended progress, it would need to be fixed before making its way into the main game. For that reason, progress within the test server is limited to the test server exclusively.
How to download the PUBG Public Test Server
The PTS is offered as a separate download from the main game. If you purchased PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Steam, the PTS will be added to your Steam library. If you bought it on PS4, the test server can similarly be found in your Library within the Purchased section. On Xbox One, you’ll find it in the My Games and Apps section.
