Today’s Red Dead Online update introduces a new Fronter Pursuit, The Naturalist. As with all pursuits, players must find a particular place to start the Naturalist role.
After you start the new job track, you’ll want to find Legendary Animal locations, which have just been introduced to Red Dead Online. We’ll show you how to get the Legendary Animal Map to track down these fantastic critters.
How to start the Naturalist role in Red Dead Online
Starting the Naturalist Frontier Pursuit in Red Dead Online is a fairly straightforward process. You’ll need to head to Strawberry and walk over to the Welcome Center to find the two Naturalist NPCs:
- Gus Macmillan – Pays you for hides and animal parts. Rewards you with clothing and trinkets made from these materials.
- Harriet Davenport – Rewards you for obtaining samples without killing animals.
So, you have a lethal and non-lethal option for obtaining materials from animals. With Gus, hunting works as usual, but working for Harriet means using the new Sedative Varmint Cartridges with the Varmint Rifle.
Regardless of which person you side with (and you can take missions from both to an extent), you’ll need to document your adventures in the Animal Field Guide. This guide is a compendium that you can complete by tracking, photographing, and collecting samples from animals.
Of course, the most elusive and most impressive animals are the newly added Legendary Animals.
How to find Legendary Animals in Red Dead Online
You’ll get the Legendary Animal Map when you take on the Naturalist role along with a Blood Sample Kit and Animal Field Guide. The map will help you narrow down the Legendary Animals’ locations in Red Dead Online, but you’ll need to use your field guide and knowledge you’ve gathered so far to pinpoint them.
As of the launch of this update, there are seven Legendary Animals to find in Red Dead Online:
- Beaver
- Bison
- Boars
- Cougars
- Elk
- Foxes
- Wolves
More of these iconic critters will be added to the game in the weeks to come.
