Assassin's Creed: Valhalla multiplayer

Will there be Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla multiplayer or co-op?

Ubisoft has finally revealed that the leaked Assassin’s Creed: Ragnarok is actually Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, although speculation about the Norse setting and Viking protagonist was exactly right. With Vikings being a revelrous bunch, will there be Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla co-op to help set the proper mood? Maybe Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla multiplayer so that warriors can earn eternal glory in battle?

Stay with GameRevolution as we explore whether Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla could have competitive and/or cooperative multiplayer support.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Multiplayer | Competitive and co-op modes?

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla multiplayer

At this early stage, AC: Valhalla developer Ubisoft hasn’t announced whether or not the Norse Assassin’s Creed game will feature any form of online play. As such, we don’t officially know whether Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla multiplayer will be included when the title hits PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this year.

Although Assassin’s Creed is often considered a singleplayer experience, the series does have a history of embracing both competitive and cooperative online play. AC: Brotherhood introduced stealth-based competitive multiplayer to the franchise, though it was cut after Black Flag and hasn’t made an appearance since. Similarly, co-op appeared in the disastrous Assassin’s Creed: Unity and hasn’t returned for more recent installments.

With Valhalla spending extra time in development, skipping the annualized 2019 release slot in favor of targeting 2020, it’s possible that a portion of the additional time has been spent implemented some form of online play. This would align with Ubisoft Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoet’s 2018 statement to Game Informer that “Assassin’s Creed has no multiplayer mode, and that is very important for the social aspect of gaming, so we are looking for that.”

Not just that, but with a whopping 15 studios actively working on the game it seems reasonable to assume that the resources are there to implement both competitive and co-op online play. In the age of games as a service — which Ubisoft has played a large part in ushering in — it wouldn’t surprise us to see Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla multiplayer come launch.
