Predator: Hunting Grounds Self-Destruct Defuse | How to get the That Was Close… trophy

If you’ve seen the movies or played Predator: Hunting Grounds, you know that the self-destruct move is one of the more iconic parts of the franchise. But you can also defuse the bomb if you’re playing as the human. You even get the “That Was Close…” trophy the first time you do it. So how do you get the Predator: Hunting Grounds self-destruct defuse to work?

Learning how to defuse the self-destruct timer is not too difficult. First, you have to down the Predator. Usually, they will activate the self-destruct timer by holding down the interact button. The beast will start laughing and immediately dump everything you have into it. Shotguns work very well for this since they won’t be moving.

After you kill it, it’ll drop a little rectangular PDA thing (watch out because it might clip through its corpse). You have to hold the interact key to interact with it. It will say “Defuse” and have a white triangle. Be careful. This will usually trigger the reload or mud camo animation and will hamper your chances of actually defusing.

You might think a lost second or two wouldn’t matter, but that’s not the case here because of how tight the timing is. Interacting with the PDA will start a mini-game. Here, you’ll have to match the icons using the up and down buttons and then pressing the fire button to confirm. It’s very tricky since a lot of the patterns look the same. You will blow up a few times trying to do this.

If you mess up a round, you get sent back to the previous round. This will likely kill you. However, if you get all four rounds done, you will have to defend the corpse for a few minutes. You’ll get extra experience if you escape with body in tact.
