Epic Games’ battle royale title Fortnite is an absolute phenomenon, so, with Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox Series X hardware due out this holiday, are there any plans in place to make sure that Xbox One gamers who upgrade can continue to play? Stick with this guide to find out everything you need to know about whether or not a Fortnite Xbox Series X release is scheduled for the future.
Will there be a Fortnite Xbox Series X version?
At the time of writing, Fortnite developer Epic Games hasn’t announced any plans regarding a potential Fortnite Xbox Series X port. Microsoft’s next-gen platform is much more powerful than the existing Xbox One X — which already runs Fortnite at 4K resolution — so the possibilities for a revised version are certainly exciting. That being said, with no official word currently being available on the matter, for now those upgrades will remain somewhat of a pipedream.

One thing is for certain, though, and that’s that the existing Xbox One version of Fortnite will be playable on Xbox Series X via backward compatibility. With all Xbox One compatible games working on Series X right out of the box, as confirmed by Phil Spencer, that means Fortnite will be playable on Xbox Series X from day one.
Although it won’t be an all-new version made specifically to take advantage of the next-gen hardware, it is possible that Fortnite will see some notable enhancements when played on Xbox Series X. Spencer has said that the Xbox team’s “commitment to compatibility means existing Xbox One games. . . look and play better than ever before” on the new console. With that in mind, it’s entirely possible that Fortnite will feature the likes of higher-quality assets and increased framerate when played on the next-generation Xbox Series X.
