Nioh 2 is mostly a game where you mostly clang swords with some nasty demons and samurai. But sometimes you can be a bit sneaky. You should be able to use a stealth attack, but you can’t, at least, at first. So how do you backstab in Nioh 2?
How to get the backstab skill in Nioh 2
You cannot backstab in Nioh 2 when you start the game. You need to buy a certain skill that you do not have access to. This skill is in the Ninja skill tree and is called Sneak Attack. It costs one Ninja skill point.

But you’ll notice that the skill is locked. To be able to unlock it, you’ll need to first do the Ninja training mission in the Dojo from the map screen. It is called, “The Way of the Ninja: Novice” and once you complete it, you’ll be able to spend a skill point and get the necessary skill. Ninja skill points are earned from using Ninjutsu items (which you should almost always be using), ninja locks of hair, and leveling up your Dexterity stat. It’s unclear if backstabbing earns you Ninja skill points but it wouldn’t hurt to try.
How to backstab in Nioh 2
Once you get the skill, backstabbing in Nioh 2 is pretty easy. Just slowly walk up to an enemy and press the Triangle button. The best way to do this is to lock on with R3 and hold block as you walk until the reticule is red like in the picture. If you hold down block, you can press the stick all the way forward and still be silent. You can also use the Catwalking scroll to run silently. Sneak attacks usually won’t kill your enemy, but it will do some decent damage.
