Dating and getting married in Rune Factory 4 is probably the most frustrating part of the game. Getting into a relationship in Rune Factory 4 takes quite a bit of work, and meeting the conditions to marry your sweetheart can take a long time. There’s a random factor when it comes to dating and marriage in this game that means you may be waiting for years before wedding bells finally ring. Unfortunately, you can’t have a child in Rune Factory until you get married, so you’ll be missing out on some of the story until then.

Who can you date and get married to in Rune Factory 4?
There are six bachelors and six bachelorettes in Rune Factory 4. Since you can’t have a same-sex relationship in this game, the characters you can potentially date and get married to are locked to your character’s gender.

How to get in a relationship and date in Rune Factory 4
Getting into a relationship with someone in Rune Factory 4 takes a lot of work. Before you can think of asking them to be your boyfriend or girlfriend, you’ll need to raise their Love Point level to at least 7. You can build LP by talking to them and giving them the appropriate gifts each day (check our gift guide to see which items each person likes). You can check what LP level a person is at by checking the relationship section in the + Start Menu.
It takes a while to get a person up to LP level 7, so expect to spend at least two or three seasons getting them to that point. Even once you get your potential boyfriend or girlfriend up to LP level 7, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll date you. Like almost everything in Rune Factory 4, there’s a degree of RNG you have to deal with when you start trying to date someone.
How to ask someone to date you in Rune Factory 4
The actual process of asking someone to date you in Rune Factory 4 is easy. When speaking to your potential boyfriend or girlfriend, press L or R to trigger the BTW menu. When they finish speaking, you’ll get several options.
If you want to date someone, you need to choose “I love you!” on the BTW menu. You’ll then get the option to say, “I really love you!” or “Just kidding.” If you choose “I really love you!” and the person is at or over LP level 7, there is a chance they’ll accept your confession and trigger your first relationship event.
What should I do if I keep getting rejected when I try to get in a relationship in Rune Factory 4?
Unless you have incredible luck, you’re likely going to get rejected many, many times before the person you want to date takes you seriously. Even when you have the person you want to date at or over LP level 7, there’s only a small chance they’ll say yes. Unfortunately, the RNG on whether someone will accept your love changes daily, so you can’t just spam ask them over and over.
Fortunately, there are no consequences to getting rejected. Your LP level doesn’t decrease, and the person will just act as if you were joking.
To increase the chances of a person saying yes when you ask them to date you in Rune Factory 4, you’ll have to continue to raise their LP level. Unfortunately, once you hit LP level 7, it takes more and more work to build a person’s LP if you’re not dating them. Just keep at increasing their LP and ask them to date you each day, and eventually, they’ll accept. I’ve never had anyone accept under LP level 9, but your luck might be better than mine.
Can I date more than one person at a time in Rune Factory 4?
As long as you’re not married, you can date as many of the six potential partners as you want. Just be warned that it can be a considerable timesink to keep six relationships going. I’ve also read that being in a relationship with multiple people can cause you to gain LP slower, but that might not be the case.
However, once you get married, your player days are over. Getting hitched takes even more time than it does to start dating.
