Tonnes of changes have taken place as part of the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 shenanigans. One of the more intriguing new aspects of the new Season, however, is the Fortnite Minimap Gadget. In this guide, we’ll let you in on what the Minimap Gadget does, how to get one, and how to use it. It turns out that you’ll need to make the most of the new Fortnite Shakedown mechanic to get hold of a Minimap Gadget.
What is the Fortnite Minimap Gadget?
As stated above, the new Fortnite Minimap Gadget has been added as part of the Chapter 2 Season 2 update. Unlike other items, you can find and use, however, the Minimap Gadget is more specific. The Minimap Gadget is used to discover the locations of nearby chests, usable items, and enemies. It’s a useful tool to get your hands on, for sure. As an added bonus, it looks a bit like a Nintendo Switch, too, as you can see in the image above.

How to get a Fortnite Minimap Gadget
The only known way to get hold of a Minimap Gadget in Fortnite is to perform a Shakedown. You get and automatically use a Minimap Gadget when you perform a Shakedown on an enemy (more on how to do that below). Once you have used the Minimap Gadget, which should be an automatic, instant thing, the locations of nearby chests, usable items, and even enemies will be highlighted on your map. Read through our guide on how to perform a Shakedown in Fortnite for more information.
Depending on who you Shakedown, a different group of enemies will be highlighted. If you perform a Shakedown on an enemy player who’s playing in a group, for example, you should see (as far as we know) the rest of their remaining squad highlighted on your map. They’ll also have a red arrow above their heads to make them stand out more, too. If you perform a Shakedown on a Henchman, however, other nearby Henchmen (and their boss) should be highlighted on the map. This should help you avoid them all or help you take them all down.
