If you’ve been battling your way through DBZ: Kakarot and you’re anything like us, you’ve probably remained blissfully unaware of in-game Super Finishes for far too long. Dragon Ball is all about ostentatiously over-the-top combat, after all, so now’s the time to correct this injustice and gain the Flash Finish Trophy or Achievement in the process. Here’s everything you need to know about how to perform a Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Super Finish.
How to do a Super Finish in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
The first thing you’ll need to do in order to perform a DBZ: Kakarot Super Finish is to progress through the story until you gain the ability to go Super Saiyan. We’ve got a dedicated guide for that if you want to know more about the specifics of this process.

Once you’ve unlocked the ability, simply follow the steps outlined below:
- During a battle, hold down both trigger buttons on your controller and then select the “Super Saiyan” transformation
- Keep fighting until you fully charge the Tension gauge (flame-like HUD element in the bottom right)
- Hold the triangle button on PS4, or the Y button on Xbox, to charge your blue Ki meter
- Once full, you should enter Surge mode
- At this point, you need to finish your opponent by using a Special Attack
If you’ve performed all steps correctly, a short cutscene will trigger in which your opponent is defeated in cinematic fashion. It’s worth noting, however, that Surge mode is limited and you’ll want to trigger it when your opponent is already at low health as a result. You don’t want to risk missing your chance at a Super Finish by not having enough time to defeat your opponent while it remains active.
If this is the first time you’ve performed a Super Finish, you’ll gain a secret Bronze Trophy or Achievement worth 15 Gamerscore. It’s called Flashy Finish and the description reads: “Win a battle with a Super Finish.”
