What is a Dusk Ball in Sword and Shield?

As stated above, there are many different kinds of Poke Balls to find, buy, and use in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Dusk Ball is a relatively rare Poke Ball that awards you with higher catch-chance rates in dark areas such as caves and at night. Essentially, it makes catching Pokemon at night or in dark areas such as caves easier. In such situations, the Dusk Ball is more powerful than an Ultra Ball, so it is definitely worth having more than a few to hand.

You should receive either a 3x or 3.5x catch rate multiplier (compared to a standard Poke Ball) when using a Dusk Ball either at night or in a dark area such as a cave. The Dusk Ball compares favorably to the Ultra Ball, too, as long as you use it at night or inside a cave. The Ultra Ball should give you a 2x catch rate multiplier compared to the standard Poke Ball. Use a Dusk Ball at any other time or location and it’s the same difference as using a standard Poke Ball, however. Even though they look cool, don’t waste them!

How to Get More Dusk Balls

There are a few different ways in which you can get hold of Dusk Balls in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Ball guy, for example, will give you Dusk Balls in occasional handouts. To get as many Dusk Balls as you can afford, however, head instead to the Hammerlocke Pokemon Center. In there, you will be able to buy Dusk Balls at 1,000 Poke Dollars a pop from the vendor on the far right of the desk. From the same vendor, you will be able to purchase Dive Balls and Timer Balls, too.

You’ll also be able to find Dusk Balls in the Wild Area. Various different Watt Traders will give you special Poke Balls in exchange for Watts. What the Watt Traders offer you, however, does seem to change every time you speak to them. If you’re after many Dusk Balls, we recommend simply buying them from the vendor in Hammerlocke as detailed above.

Do Pokemon Sword and Shield Dusk Balls get Catch Multiplier in Raids and Dens?

Pokemon Sword and Shield Dusk Ball

If you want to dramatically improve your catching possibilities, you will want to use a Dusk Ball at night or in a dark area in Sword and Shield. Do Raids and Dens count as dark places just as caves do, however? Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to locate an official response to this question. Based on reports from other players online, however, it’s relatively safe to assume that you will receive the Dusk Ball catch rate multiplier bonus during a Raid or within a Den.

Dusk Balls should work in Raids and give you the same healthy catch rate boost as if you are catching a Pokemon at night or inside a cave. You should find, too, that catching Pokemon in Raids is easier for the most part, too. If you have any to spare, therefore, we’d strongly recommend that you use your Dusk Balls in Raids as this should make catching Pokemon in Dens a lot easier.
