Half-Life Alyx PSVR release date

Half-Life: Alyx PSVR Release Date | Is it coming to PS4?

It’s been over 12 years since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two, but even after more than a decade, many fans are still foaming at the mouth over newly announced VR title Half-Life: Alyx. PC players that already own a virtual reality display appear to be set, but what about PS4 owners that are looking to enjoy the franchise revival on PlayStation VR? Here’s what we currently know regarding a potential Half-Life: Alyx PSVR release date.

Will Half-Life: Alyx come to PSVR?

Although it might not be the fabled Half-Life 3 and the internet memes are likely to continue as a result, none of that’s stopped neglected fans anticipating this prequel set prior to the events of Half-Life 2. Although the series is synonymous with PC gaming, and specifically the Steam platform that’s owned and operated by Half-Life developer Valve, the entire saga (up to this point) has been told on consoles through a variety of ports over the years.

ALSO: Half-Life: Alyx will be free to Valve Index owners

As such, it’s natural that those invested in the PlayStation ecosystem would call for any new Half-Life entry to reach their preferred platform, especially when there’s a bestselling VR headset attached to it. Unfortunately, at least for the moment, Valve has not announced any plans for a Half-Life: Alyx PSVR launch. It’s been confirmed that the game is coming to PC in March 2020 and will be compatible with all headsets, though the mention of a PlayStation VR version was conspicuous in its absence.

While it might be unlikely that we’ll ever see the game hit PlayStation 4, a version for PSVR 2 on the PS5 could potentially be on the cards. This is merely speculation, but with Sony having patented new VR technology and the next-generation PlayStation 5 being lauded as a powerhouse, Valve’s traditional timescale for bringing their games to consoles late could aline quite nicely with the new hardware’s launch.
