Modern Warfare Operator Edition upgrade

Modern Warfare Operator Edition Upgrade | Can you buy Operator skins?

If you bought a standard copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), be that physical or digital, and now find yourself wanting to access the Operator and/or Operator Enhanced Edition bonus content, you’re probably wondering how to upgrade. The answer to this question isn’t as simple as you might think, so here’s everything you need to know about whether or not you can purchase a Modern Warfare Operator Edition upgrade.

Can you upgrade the Modern Warfare Standard Edition?

At this moment in time, unfortunately, it isn’t possible to upgrade the standard version of Modern Warfare to either the Operator or the Operator Enhanced Edition. There is evidence pointing towards the fact that this was once possible, however. Although the Xbox digital storefront lists the Operator Edition Pack as being “not sold separately,” Sony’s PlayStation Store once carried an item titled the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare — Operator Enhanced Upgrade.

Seemingly, this delisted item would allow players to upgrade their version of the game and gain access to benefits like exclusive Operator skins in the process. There’s also evidence that an upgrade was available for the Modern Warfare PC version through Battle.net.

In a thread discussing the possibility of an Operator Edition upgrade, one user asserted that Blizzard Support acknowledged to them this functionality was available on launch day. Modern Warfare publisher Activision is then alleged to have removed the feature one day after launch and Blizzard “don’t know why.”

That’s just conjecture without further evidence, although later in the thread another user links to a Battle.net store page while saying “Ya’ll can’t see this?” as if the upgrade were still visible. A reply reveals that the link merely threw up an error for that user, while it now redirects to the main Modern Warfare store page.

While it isn’t currently possible to secure a Modern Warfare Operator Edition upgrade, it seems clear that it once was, if only fleetingly. Activision is possibly planning to hold the option back until a later date, as many publishers opt to do before selling previously exclusive DLC. In that case, the upgrade going live at launch would’ve been a mistake, which would explain its sudden removal.
