Death Stranding Pee Mushroom

How to pee in Death Stranding and what it’s used for

Being able to pee in Death Stranding is just one of the weirder aspects of the game. Few titles have gone as far as to let you urinate, much less make it an actual functional game mechanic. However, peeing in Death Stranding isn’t just hilarious. Sam’s urine is a precious commodity, and using it correctly can be very beneficial to you.

How to pee in Death Stranding

Death Stranding Urinate Equip

Figuring out how to pee in Death Stranding isn’t too hard. You equip Sam’s… thing, just like you would another usable weapon or item. By holding right on the D-Pad, you can select the urination function, and get ready to go to town.

Peeing works like aiming a gun. You hold L2 to prepare and get your target in your sights, then hold R2 to fire. Sam will then let it fly and urinate. Kojima anticipated your nasty tricks, though. If you try to take a look at Sam’s willy, he’ll always turn away. The amount of urine Sam has stored at any time depends on how often you’ve drunk from your canteen, and the time its been since your last urination.

One thing to note is that Sam is a gentleman. He won’t just unzip in front of anyone and pee anywhere. If you’re too close to another human, or you’re in a situation where taking a piss would be rude or detrimental to Sam’s emotional or physical health, he will refuse to do it.

Also, if you wait too long to be, whether it be out in the wild or your private room, Sam will begin to show signs of discomfort. I’m not sure if he’ll use the bathroom on himself, but he’ll definitely act like he’s about to.

What can you use pee for in Death Stranding?

Death Stranding Pee Grenades EX No 1

As stated above, urine is actually quite useful in Death Stranding. If you just pee on the ground, a holographic mushroom will be created. I’m assuming that this serves a greater purpose than just being funny, but I haven’t quite figured it out yet. If you’re feeling especially cheeky, Sam’s urine affects BTs just like his blood does. In fact, you can use Sam’s pee as a weapon of last resort if need be. If a BT gets too close, just whip it out and urinate on them, and they’ll recoil.

Unfortunately, you can’t entirely kill a BT with piss, at least not as far as I’ve found. It’ll stun them, but only long enough for you to run away. It’s more of a novelty than anything, but it can help in a pinch.

Arguably the best use for pee in Death Stranding is to make the EX Grenade No. 1. To do this, you’ll have to have Sam hold his water. When you urinate in a private room, you’ll typically receive one or more EX Grenade No. 1s. Unfortunately, you can’t just continuously produce these grenades. How many you receive depends on how much urine in Sam’s bladder currently, as well as how long it has been since you peed in a private room.

EX Grenades don’t actually do damage to BTs, but they can slow them down. When you hit a BT with a grenade, it creates a frost-like effect at the point of impact. It will also stun the creature for a short amount of time, allowing you to slip away. These have a much better range than trying to hit a creature with Sam’s pee straight from the tap, so you’re usually better off saving your urine to make them.

There may be more fun uses and easter eggs in Death Stranding involving Sam’s pee. We’ll add them here as we find them.
