Red Dead Redemption 2 ray tracing | Does RDR2 support RTX?

Players who have managed to successfully run the latest Rockstar release agree that Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is one of the most dazzling games ever made. Well, when you manage to run it without displaying all sorts of graphical glitches, that is. Seeing Arthur Morgan leaving a fairy dust trail as he walks is surely going to become one of the best Red Dead Redemption 2 memes. But is Red Dead Redemption 2 ray tracing enabled on PC?

Ray tracing could ramp up the immersion in Red Dead Redemption 2 PC to a level that would be vastly superior to the console releases. Having superior lighting and shadow effects in a game where riding into the sunset has a literal role would certainly be a plus for many players.

Before the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 on November 5, Nvidia shared a tweet that wound up confusing many players. The tweet included new 4K screenshots from Rockstar’s game on PC with the Nvidia GeForce RTX logo plastered on, something that many took as confirmation that ray tracing was supported in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Sadly, a subsequent tweet was in order to clarify this situation and shatter the dreams of many: “Just a heads up to avoid confusion – the GeForce RTX logo here references our GeForce RTX 20 series products. Red Dead Redemption 2 does not have ray tracing.”

Many gamers are enjoying the full power of their brand-new Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 series GPU in Modern Warfare and Control, but sadly, there is no ray tracing option in Red Dead Redemption 2 at launch. Rockstar didn’t implement ray tracing at all, so players are left with a beautiful game that is thankfully at least open to some impressive community mods. It’s possible that mods could help push the game’s visual fidelity even further, but players shouldn’t count on seeing ray tracing in Red Dead Redemption 2.
